Furry Companion

Goal: Design an app that addresses the growing issue of loneliness among elderly adults.

The idea for this project came from my grandmother’s experience. Since my grandfather passed away during the pandemic, she has been living alone and facing the quiet challenges of aging in solitude. Although she wants company and conversation, she’s grown used to being on her own and finds it hard to be around people for long.

I suggested she get a cat, knowing she enjoys talking about the neighbourhood cats and that cats need less care than dogs. But she always says no, worried that her health problems would make looking after a pet too difficult.
This is a common feeling among many older people.

This led to the creation of Furry Companion, a concept for providing seniors like my grandmother with the joy of pet companionship but without the full responsibilities. It’s an idea that responds to the serious problem of loneliness and isolation among the elderly.
